A conversation with Queer Youth: Addressing GBV in the Queer Community
Join us for our zoom discussion on Tuesday, 21 July 2020 at 14h30 CAT.
LGBTIQ+ people often face disproportionate levels of violence at the hands of both strangers and intimate partners. In some settings, sexual and gender minorities who suffer violence are not viewed as victims of prejudice. Rather, abuse is tolerated as a ‘corrective’ measure. The United Nations has previously noted that LGBTIQ+ people are at a disturbingly elevated risk of homicidal violence, highlighting the increased risk that queer women and men in their diversity face because of gender-based discrimination.
This is an opportunity to hear from queer youth on what role they can play to address GBV.
