#Happyflow: Profiling Menstrual Health Management Champions - Rugare Shalom Zimunya
Rugare Shalom Zimunya is a social worker, women’s rights defender and gender equality expert. She has a particular interest in sexual reproductive health and rights and has been involved in work in SRHR within the African continent.
She currently serves as programs director for Every Girl In School Alliance (EGISA), an organization that is working to enhance girls' access to quality and equitable education through strengthening social accountability systems. She is also a network member of the Sex Rights Africa Network (SRAN), a member of SheDecides Malawi and lastly, a member of the Coalition On Prevention of Unsafe Abortion
At the moment, EGISA is running the Covid 19 dignity pack campaign which is calling on everyone to donate towards the purchasing of dignity packs for women and girls across Malawi. COVID-19 has had adverse financial impacts and the affordability of sanitary pads has been no exception. EGISA is therefore running a campaign to fundraise for dignity packs which contain pads, soap as well as a face mask.
As SheDecides, they have several activities lined up for the year. SRHR and particularly, safe abortion is a core mission. Together with relevant partners, they will be working hand in hand to advance this cause.
As a SRAN network member she works together with other members within the network to advance sexual reproductive health and rights in Africa. As a member of SheDecides, Rugare worked together with SRAN through the #SheTalks to raise awareness on SRHR in slum areas, in relation to menstrual hygiene management.
