The first Annual Africa Gender Equality Conference was broadcast online from Lilongwe, Malawi, on 8-10 March 2021, and covered a range of topics under the theme “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid19 world”.

The objectives of the conference were to celebrate the progress made towards attaining gender parity 25 years past Beijing; to give people and organisations space to champion gender equality and to amplify their voices, to crowdsource the development of home-grown solutions in order to address existing inequalities exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, and to chart new pathways to attaining gender equal societies that are resilient to future crises.
