Southern African Regional Students and Youth Conference

The 2nd edition of the Southern African Regional Students and Youth Conference will be held in South Africa at the University of Johannesburg from 13 to 16 July 2017. This conference will bring together students from Southern African Tertiary institutions with the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), governments and other stakeholders such as UN agents, civil society organisations and community based organisations.

Under the theme, Building a business case for a solid future: Promoting Access to Youth SRH services and commodities, the conference seeks to articulate and develop/agree on a clear path to an attractive return on investing in young people’s sexual reproductive health and rights issues.

The conference will also give delegates an opportunity to call on SADC governments to domesticate regional commitments and ensure that their commitments are enshrined in country policies. The students and youth will also get the opportunity to learn about the different networks, programmes and events of young people that already exist in Southern Africa and Africa, in general, and how they can participate and be part of these networks. Some of these networks and platforms might include, but are not limited to, SADC, Pan-African Youth Union (PYU), Africa Youth Day, African Youth and Adolescents Network (AfriYAN), and Southern African Regional Web for life (SARWEB).
